NexusM on Android TV, Google TV and Samsung
A native 10-foot interface for the living room, with offline playback of downloaded media and a Samsung Tizen app in development.
Your media library, made for the big screen
The NexusM Android TV app brings your entire self-hosted library to the living room with a remote-friendly interface. Navigate films, series, anime, music videos and playlists with a D-pad or a voice remote: no mouse, no keyboard.
Built for the remote, not adapted to it
The home screen leads with hero artwork and an auto-cycling backdrop, detail pages show cast, synopsis, ratings and episode information, and playback queues run through a playlist automatically. It also works as a standalone player for media stored on the device, which is unusual among self-hosted TV clients.
- Hero home screen with featured titles and auto-cycling backdrops
- Films, series, anime, music videos and music in a single app
- Full-screen music video playback with next and previous navigation
- Playlist queue that plays tracks in sequence automatically
- Search across the whole library by title, artist or album
- Detail pages with cast, synopsis, ratings and episode information
- Shuffle modes for music and for music videos
- Connects straight to your NexusM server, with no cloud service in between
- Works offline as a local player for downloaded music, films and videos
Availability: the Android TV and Google TV app is distributed as a sideloaded APK, version 2.8. A Google Play Store release is planned but not yet live. The app requires NexusM 2026.22 or newer on the server.
Coming to Samsung Smart TVs
A native Tizen application is in development, bringing the same 10-foot interface to Samsung televisions with their own remote and UI conventions.
Your media library, coming to Samsung Smart TVs
The Tizen app is being rebuilt from the ground up rather than ported, so navigation matches what Samsung owners already expect from their remote. No release date has been set; follow the project for announcements.
- Native Tizen app, intended for listing in the Samsung TV app store
- Full media access: films, series, anime, music videos and playlists
- Remote-friendly interface tuned for Samsung D-pad navigation
- Streams from your own NexusM server, with no cloud and no subscription
- Targets Samsung Smart TVs running Tizen 5.5 and later (2020 and newer)
- No release date announced yet; follow the repository for updates
On phones, tablets and laptops, the browser is the app
There is no separate mobile application to install. NexusM serves a responsive interface that works in any modern browser, on any device on your network, and the same interface adapts to a phone screen.
When Go Big Mode is running on a TV or a laptop, opening NexusM on your phone turns it into a touch remote automatically. For smart TVs without an app, the built-in DLNA/UPnP server makes the library visible to the TV's own player, to VLC and to Roku.
- Responsive web interface on phones, tablets and laptops
- Phone becomes a touch remote for Go Big Mode, with no app
- DLNA/UPnP server for smart TVs, VLC, Roku and other clients
- No account and no cloud service on any platform
